Our HVAC Work & Helpful Information

Servicing a Mini Split Should Not Be a Mini Job

At Brewster Heating & Cooling, we are passionate about what we do, and we love to review with customers the work we have performed. We know that you work hard for your money, and we work to help you save on energy dollars. The image on the right shows a ductless mini split that we worked on. Working on this type of unit can be time consuming because to service it properly, it must be mostly unassembled. It’s more than simply changing the filter and treating the coil.

Air conditioning ductless mini split that we recently serviced. Before and after.

What's in Your Unit?

MOLD. As we used to say in the 80s, it’s grody to the max. Here’s the scoop. We were called in for a bad odor coming from this mini split on the right. Once we removed the air filters and covers, we discovered a build-up of mold and other nasties. At Brewster Heating & Cooling, we perform a deep cleaning. We use a food grade cleaner to break down any build up in the coil and a low-pressure power washer to rinse the evaporator coil, blower wheel, evaporator pan and surrounding areas. This image suggests that whomever previously cleaned the unit did not disassemble it to thoroughly clean it. Likely, the mold grew because the cover was not removed, so some areas were not properly cleaned. An odor was an indicator of an obvious issue, but an odor isn’t always present when there is an issue. Please give us a call today to discuss your system needs.

Bad smell coming from an air conditioning system can indicate an issue and that issue might be mold.

Efficiancy Saves Your Money

Although this image looks like a batch of brownies gone bad, it’s actually a heat exchanger that is in dire need of maintenance. When the heat exchanger gets blocked or restricted from ash and soot build up, the boiler has to run longer to heat your home. (That’s because the extra layer of ash and soot insulates the heat exchanger, and it’s forced to heat through this additional layer.) The good news is that proper maintenance can prevent this from happening. We use a digital combustion analyzer to set up all our equipment to ensure it’s running efficiently. And guess what? Efficiency saves you money. Give us a call today to schedule your annual heating maintenance. #capecod #capecodhvac #heating #heatingandcooling #capecodhome #capecodlife

Avoid the Ice Age with Preventative Maintenance

Maintenance is critical to keep your air conditioning system running and running efficiently. This image to the right captures ice over an evaporator coil that froze due to a lack of maintenance. The air filter was so dirty that it got plugged, preventing air from moving through the filter. As a result, the evaporator coil froze. Want ice cold air and not an iced up system? Give us a call today to schedule your system's maintenance.

Dirty Coils today Can Lead to System issues

Air conditioning condenser coils play one of the biggest roles in the cooling process. They are exposed to dirt and debris outdoors. In the before pictures, the coils are black, just behind the protective cage. As the dirt build-up gets substantial, the dirt becomes a layer that acts as a barrier, making it harder for the heat to be transferred out. This means that heat will not be adequately removed from your home. Unfortunately, whenever your system has to work harder than it is intended to, the system then becomes susceptible to break down as well as additional energy costs. Give us a call today to schedule your annual maintenance. We'd be happy to speak to you about your system needs.
